Rise, Sir David: Beckham Knighted by the Monarch at Windsor Castle Investiture

The football icon was bestowed with a knighthood at Windsor Castle on Tuesday. The former England captain, 50, was one of the individuals accepting honours for his contributions to athletics and philanthropy. In recent months, he stated he was “extremely honored” of being recognised in the King’s birthday honours.

Soccer Achievements

The player made his Premier League debut for the Red Devils in 1995 and was a key member that secured a thrilling Champions League final victory in 1999 when they beat the German giants with last-minute strikes.

In total, he scored eighty-five scores and collected honours including six Premier League titles and two FA Cups as a footballer, before retiring from the sport in the past decade. In addition to his sports endeavors, he has supported a number of charity causes, including acting as a goodwill ambassador for humanitarian aid organisation the United Nations Children's Fund since the mid-2000s.

Philanthropy and Beyond

Last year, the sports star, who has referred to himself as a “huge royalist”, was named an ambassador for the royal educational charity, an non-profit organization established by the monarch in 1990. In the late nineties he was declared top fashion icon by a leading publication and he has modelled for companies such as the fashion retailer, Armani, and the luxury label.

Beckham married his wife Victoria in the turn of the millennium and the couple have four children together – Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz, and their daughter.
