Patriots Equal Best Winning Streak From Tom Brady Era with Win Over Jets
Rookie TreVeyon Henderson has scored five TDs this season
The New England Patriots tied their longest winning run from the Tom Brady era as they overcame AFC East opponents the Jets by 13 points in professional football
First-year standout Henderson led the way with three TDs as the Patriots notched an eighth straight win for the initial occasion since star signal-caller Brady's closing campaign with the team in the 2019 season
QB Maye accumulated 281 yards and a touchdown, completing 25 passes from 34 throws
The win extends the Patriots lead at the summit of the division as they moved to nine victories against two losses, with the Jets at the foot after falling to a 2-8 mark
The visitors had taken the lead at Gillette Stadium with quarterback Fields rushing for a five-yard touchdown to conclude the New York's opening drive
But the Patriots responded in the second quarter as the rookie scored two seven-yard touchdowns before the running back hauled in a throw from Drake Maye at the back of the endzone halfway into the third quarter to make it 21-7
"That was a crucial moment for him stepping up, and it's been excellent for him to keep gaining experience," Maye commented on the rookie. "He aims to be excellent."
Justin Fields threw to John Metchie toward the end of the third quarter to reduce the lead for the Jets but Andy Borregales converted a two field goals in the fourth quarter as the home side sealed the win
