Jennifer Lawrence States Mentioning Donald Trump Would ‘Add Fuel to a Fire’ Dividing the Country Apart
Lawrence has expressed that she finds it inappropriate fitting to comment publicly regarding the Trump administration, worried it could exacerbate divisive discussions and further divisions throughout the United States.
‘I Question the Usefulness’, Says Lawrence
Speaking with media, Lawrence shared, “When Trump was first in office, I felt like I was acting frantically like a chicken with my head cut off. But experience has shown, over multiple voting cycles, Hollywood stars do not make a difference in any way on who people vote for.”
The actor went on, “So then what am I doing? I’m just sharing my opinion on a matter that’s going to heighten conflict dividing the nation apart.”
Changing Allegiances
Jennifer Lawrence has previously been open about backing right and leftwing candidates throughout her life. Brought up by conservative Republicans in her home state, she supported John McCain in the 2008 election before joining the Democrats and explaining she understood during President Obama’s term that voting Republican was opposing her personal freedoms as a female citizen.
Past Statements
In 2015, she stated that a Trump victory might signal “the end of the world” and publicly supported Joe Biden in the 2020 election. During the most recent election, she voiced her backing to the Democratic nominee, “as I think she’s an excellent choice and I am confident that she will take all necessary steps to safeguard abortion access.”
Hollywood’s Stance
The star was joined by numerous celebrities in her opposition to Trump as a candidate for re-election, but the minimal impact stars have over the voting intentions was emphasized by his election win.
“The second term feels different,” commented the actress of his administration. “Since he made his plans clear. We understood his record for four years. He was explicit. And that’s what we chose.”
New Release
Jennifer Lawrence is highlighting her new film, the filmmaker’s drama in which she plays a young mom who deals with her mental health in the countryside. Speaking at a press conference for the movie in the film festival, she addressed the situation in the Middle East: “It’s frightening. It’s mortifying. What’s taking place is equivalent to a humanitarian crisis and it’s awful.”
Broader Concerns
The actress elaborated by expressing that she was disheartened by “the hostility in the discourse of U.S. political debates currently and how that is going to be commonplace to the younger generation now. It’s going to be normal to them that elected officials deceive.”
She aimed to shift frustration about the situation to decision-makers rather than celebrities. “Keep attention on who is responsible,” she remarked, in what many took to be a reference to the declaration signed by more than 4,000 Hollywood professionals to boycott Israeli film institutions.
Individual Insights
Jennifer Lawrence, who earned critical acclaim early in her career for her performance in her breakout movie, is attracting awards attention for her performance in Die, My Love. Even though Ramsay has disputed the story being understood as one of post-birth struggles and psychological distress, she said that she did relate to aspects of her film narrative after the arrival of her second son, soon after filming concluded.
“There was concern for my son,” she explained, “just picturing every worst-case scenario, and then second-guessing everything that I was attempting. I was receiving counseling, but I started taking a drug called the prescription and I took it for two weeks and it made a difference.”
Career Moments
Lawrence also spoke of the liberating necessity of filming without clothes in the film while she was expecting and limited physically.
“There’s a freedom,” she said, of being forced to abandon insecurities. “I mean, I occasionally wonder where I’m like, What technically are the differences between me and a prostitute? But it isn’t a major concern.”
