Chiefs State They Are Aware of Alleged Abuse Allegations Involving Wide Receiver Rashee Rice
The NFL franchise released a comment Wednesday night confirming they are aware of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a ex-partner of wide receiver Rashee Rice and had been in contact with the league office.
The team did not mention the player by name in their statement and noted they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Claims Posted on Instagram
The woman, who also did not mention Rice directly, posted a set of images on social media that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. Jones stated the person involved was the father of her children, and it is known she has kids with the football player, whom the team drafted in the second round.
Police Reports Currently Not on File
No official complaints were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have taken place.
Player's Recent Legal Issues
Rice was absent for the initial part of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his role in instigating a crash on a Texas roadway that resulted in several individuals injured. He was sentenced a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to serious offenses.
On the field, he concluded the season with 53 catches for 571 yards and five TDs as the Chiefs went 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
